Great to see that the boys that have been through Perth still remember and keep in touch. I am sure they had a good time.

Kettle chips

Everyone Just a quick note to clarify the situation with Kettle Chips, these are NOT kosher when a "3" appears after the used by date or in the product code at the bottom of the packet. Almost all of the stock in WA has a "3" and are therefore not kosher. The only Kettle Chips that are kosher have a "2" by the used by date or product code. If you require any further information, please contact me on 0410 548 859. Lenny ZeilingerKashrut Authority of WA28 Freedman RoadMENORA   WA   6050E-mail:  kawa@iinet.net.auPhone: 61 8 9271 0539Fax: 61 8 9271 9455

Shabbat lunch this Saturday.

Bh
You are invited to a special lunch this Shabbat. It will be great to enjoy Shabbat lunch together with you. We have many reasons to celebrate, in honor our wonderful community, the date of the founding of the Chabad Lubavitch movement by the Alter Rebbe, and Dave Birks wedding.
This is the first of a monthly community lunch. Next month a guest speaker from Melbourne will be coming.
Please advise if you can't make it.
Even if you can not make it to the services for whatever reason come after for lunch.

Shabbat parshat Vayetze

Bh
Its a strange thing now Friday evenings to come to shule and it still is light.
Mincha was said at 630pm followed by Kabbalat Shabbat. For some strange reason Rabbi White led all the services.
On Friday night the Rabbi spoke about chasing love and happiness and not realizing that it is what we have already. The idea was expressed from Jacob. He married two wives, one he loved and adored, the other he disliked. Strangely, the majority of his children came from the one disliked. He lived mainly with the one that he disliked and was even buried with her. Yet the one which he loved only brought him joy on distant occassions. The cherished child from his loved wife was taken from him.
When we think that we are married to two people the one we love and the one we dislike we are bound to end up with the one we dislike. When we realize that the one we love also has faults and therefore is the same one that we love we are bound to find joy and happiness. Try it and tell me what you find.
It was great to see Allan and Chymie at shule this week. We have missed them dearly.
We farewelled those going to Dave Birks wedding in the USA.
Thank you to the Luries for hosting all the children in the afternoon.
See you all next week for another Shabbat at Chabad!

A very moving moment

bh
Today I had the privilege of writing a letter in Gabi and Rivki's Sefer Torah. All the shluchim had the opportunity to write a letter.
Tonight we will be together all of us to remember.

From the earliest moment till the last 770 will have a minyan.

770 at 330am

Bh
Just arrived to the Beis Midrash. Full of life. I met Rabbi Groner from Melbourne sitting and learning. I can sit and still feel what I was doing when I was a Bachur here.

The Ohel at 2am

Bh
After arriving safely, the first stop is the Ohel. The resting place of the Rebbe and his Father in law.
It is 2 am but still has people coming and going. Shluchim are coming in from all over the world. Here now are some from Melbourne, Israel, France, Russia and LA.
They have left hot soup for us to enjoy in the freezing cold. There are some young students studying, others sitting and writing a letter. Everyone is asking for a blessing, advice or just visiting.
We sit and watch a video of the Rebbe, reminding us what we can and need to accomplish in the world.
If you would like to send a letter I will be going again in a few days.

The jumbo of jumbos

Bh
Sitting for over 6 hours in Sydney looking at the reason for our delay. Yes the double decker plane has already a nice history of issues.
The lesson to be learnt, the difference between Hashem and human. Hashem has created a world so diverse and involved yet all in order. When did you ever hear an announcement that the sun is having mechanical issues and therefore will be late.
Rabbi Shalom White- Chabad of Western Australia www.chabadwa.org

The journey begins a second time!

Bh
After being a victim to Jetstars usual flight cancellations and 4 hours later I will be boarding now a Qantas plane to Sydney.
It is early morning and a perfect time to daven shacharit. Thanks to my wifes cakes I also have a snack to eat.
The journey begins...

Shabbat Parshat Lech Lecha @ Chabad

BH
It was a quiet shabbos at the Chabad House this week. Adam Levitan sang the Kabbalat Shabbat service beautifily. It is always great to see the singing and dancing during davening.
Rabbi White gave a talk about Avraham's journey to discover his true self. Our society has been shaped by three major influences Marx, Shpinoza and Freud. Each touching on the idea that we are all victims affected by our surroundings. All lacking a true freedom to act out of free choice. Marx saying that we are victims of our land, our social stand, a land owner or laborer. Shpinoza claiming that we are victims of birth, from the time we are born we are biologicly programmed and will live accordingly through out life. And of course Freud stating that we are all victims of our childhood, our relationship with our parents will shape the choices we make later on in life. Interestingly Hashem tells Avraham to go to himself leaving his "Land, birthplace and Fathers home". Avraham teaching us that we are need not be victims rather we are able to have an active and responsible role in the life we choose to live.
Shabbat morning shiur was interesting. The topic of an active Shabbat. Shabbat is not what we cannot do, rather it is what we are able to do. The beauty of Shabbat is enabled by the prohibited element but it is what we do that makes it so special.
Rabbi White led the morning services. Gabi Terry read from the Torah and haftorah. Gilad Lurie davened mussaf.
A big Yishar Koach to our annonymous donor for this weeks Kiddush.

Shabbat parshat Noah @ Chabad

Bh
This last Shabbat was very nice. Friday night were around 50 people in attendance. Moshe Rosner led the Kabbalat Shabbat services very elegantly. Leha Dodi started with a bit of a stutter but was soon suing with all the gusto. (Thanks Yoni)
The Rabbi spoke about the difference between Noah and Abraham. Noah was very a righteous man yet was too obedient. He lacked the sense of responsibility. Noah allowed Hashem to destroy the world. Avraham on the other hand when told that Sodom and Amora were going to be destroyed, Avraham argued with Hashem. Avraham tried to find a merit to save the people. This is what is brought in a Midrash. A King had a young child which the King advised him to walk with him, but to his older child the King advised to walk infront of the King. Hashem told of Noach that he walked with Him. On the other hand Avraham it is said walked before Hashem.
Shabbat morning began with a shiur on the meaning of Hakhol Yoducha. This was enjoyed by the men who attended.
The morning services were led by Gilad Lurie.
Moishe Rosner and Gabi Terry read from the Torah. Peter Glas read beautifuly the haftorah.
Kiddush was sponsored by the Lurie Family in honour of Chaya Sarah, the new addition to the family.

Shabbat Beshalach is a very special shabbat as it is also known as Shabbat Shira- the shabbat of the Song.
